There’s nothing that says Aussie quite like the perfect beachy blonde hairstyle. This look has become an entire trend of its own in recent years. Adopted by just about everybody who’s looking for that sun-kissed, coastal, effortlessly cool look – including Hollywood’s A-list celebrities, some of which haven’t even stepped foot on a beach in years! The sweeping white-sand crescent of Manly and the beautiful sunrise every morning draw in not just swimmers, surfers and joggers alike, but everyone who wants to be part of the Manly beach lifestyle. Our Franck Provost Manly Salon is located just footsteps away from the iconic beach and has become a favourite with locals and visitors for creating the perfect beachy blonde hairstyle for them.
We asked our beautiful team in the Manly salon to reveal their favourite shades of blonde to create a perfect beachy look and how they create them.
Balayage was invented in France, with Franck Provost being one of its pioneers! We’re masters in this lived-in, rooty style which beautifully enhances the hairs radiance for looks that can be subtle right through to bold and dynamic. This relaxed, effortless balayage style gives us major surfer girl vibes as the carefree colour looks simply perfect showcased in a textural wave as if you’ve let your hair dry naturally after being in the ocean.
A balayage 2Ors can be adapted to suit almost all hair types thanks to a mix of two subtle shades that are applied by using a combination of freehand and veiling techniques, we can create results that show off gorgeous light and shade that are incredibly natural-looking – It’s a fantastic way to make your hair stunningly lustrous and vibrant!
The maintenance factor is as adaptable as the technique itself! If you’re the type of girl that doesn’t like to see your roots get too long and wants to keep the blonde looking fresh and bright then 8 weekly trips to the salon will work for you. If, however, you’re not into hair maintenance then you can stretch your salon appointment to 12 weeks. Either way, your hair will look beautiful the whole time.
Often people shy away from warmer gold tones and ask us for ashy cool tones. Ash tones are great, we love them but they can often make hair and skin look dull and washed out if you’re not careful. That’s why we love to work with beigey tones here – they strike the perfect balance of warm and cool as their dominating tone is brought forward by the clients natural colouring, making them invariably flattering on all! The team at our hairdresser Paddington would love to chat about booking you in!
The bronde colour technique is the perfect blend of blonde and brown. We don’t think you should have to choose between being either a blonde or a brunette when you can be both? A luscious mixture of the 2 colours combined together that can enhance your natural hair colour with depth and warmth. Bronde hair colour gives us dreamy hints of beachside bars in the early evening pink sky, sipping on a cocktail feeling bronzed from your day in the sun.
Always a great colour for people who are naturally dark to medium brown that are looking to add some glistening interest to their locks. However, it’s ultimately flattering on just about everyone! Another great colour if you’re looking for low commitment as it utilises so much your own natural hair colour as a base for a fuss-free grow out. 6-8 weekly toner top-ups are recommended to maintain tone and shine.
The bronde style works really well on hair of all thicknesses. It’s created using a clever combination of freehand balayage and perfectly placed highlights. This combination skillfully makes use of your hair’s natural depth, playing both the depth and the lightness off of each other. Creating the most beautiful multi-dimensional bronding effect that can be made soft and subtle or bolder and daring depending on the amount of colour placed into the hair.
Our absolute favourite shade of blonde that we like to team with a beachy bronde style is a rich honey tone. These warmer tones give a super luxurious feel to the hair. They also look incredibly sumptuous on medium, tanned and sun-kissed skin tones. It’ll also give an extra sparkle to darker eye colours like brown and hazel.
Indian Sun is our exclusive Franck Provost hair contouring technique that is personalised to your face-shape. Square, round, oval or heart? Each face shape has its own Indian Sun! Inspired by makeup contouring, Indian Sun hair contouring is the art of strategically placing colour around key parts of your face to enhance your best features whilst maintaining your current hair colour everywhere else. As the name suggests, our hairstyle is taken on an adventure to long, balmy carefree summers in foreign lands.
The technique is ultra-personalised to each individual and is therefore considered universally flattering. Works really well on hair that is either naturally medium blonde or darker and also on previously coloured hair. The results are subtle but can be built on and made more impactful with each visit to the salon.
Give yourself a touch of sunny coastal-inspired hair with no harsh regrowth lines! These beachy blonde styles really do lend themselves to the low maintenance girl and the Indian Sun colour is no exception. Retouch colour appointments can be spaced out for up to 12 weeks with a little toner top-up in between.
Shimmery gold tones go hand in hand with the Indian Sun colour contouring and all of our clients are asking for it! Golds are great for warming up a cooler skin tone – perfect for in the spring before you get your tan and then again in autumn as your tan fades.
Still chicer than chic and yet totally cutting edge. The platinum look is one of the hottest hair colours around, but it’s also notoriously hard to achieve. Each strand is lightened to a super-pale yellow and then toned to the desired iridescent shade. The platinum blonde look has a sort of mermaid quality to it that we love!
Best suited to medium and lighter hair depths that are strong and in great condition. If you have a darker hair type to begin with or you have lots of colour already in your hair then platinum blonde may not be possible to achieve or it may take several appointments in the salon to get you there. Once you’re there, however, the possibilities are endless. A clean, platinum blonde is the perfect canvas to experiment with pastel and metallic shades.
This kind of colour is possibly the least forgiving when it comes to maintenance – so only opt for this style if you’re willing to commit to 6 weekly trips to the salon for root touch-ups, toners in-between and a robust home-care regime to maintain the condition of your hair.
It’s really fun and looks incredible to tone our platinum blondes with our Loreal milkshake range. There are several pearlescent shades to choose from like ‘Frosty Pearl Milkshake’ and ‘Iced Sorbet Milkshake’ – these sparkly iridescent hues come in warm, neutral and cool tones that take a platinum blonde to the whole next level for any skin tone!
As the name suggests, babylights are very fine, subtle highlights that mimic the lightening effect that the sun has on children’s hair, creating a soft dimensional colour result that looks fresh and natural. Think of the long-drawn-out summer holidays spent at the beach when you were young and how your hair looked like it was brushed with shimmery highlights.
Babylights let you change up your look without anything too drastic or commitment heavy making this kind of blonde a perfect starting point for girls that have not coloured their hair before. The maintenance for babylights is almost non-existent – As your hair grows the colour will only get softer and more subtle meaning won’t have to be in the salon every 6 weeks topping up your roots!
These teeny tiny highlights are created in much the same way as traditional foil highlights, however, the placement and the amount of hair captured between each foil differs – With just a few strands of hair coloured at a time. Babylights are perfect if you have a finer hair type as you’ll avoid a stripey look that a chunkier classic type highlight might create.
We love to work in our babylights with gorgeous biscuity blonde tones – mixing creamy and golden hues with a combination of both warm and cool shades. This creates a blonde tone that brightens the skin’s complexion and is universally flattering.
